CNN ‘Fact Checks’ SNL Obama Skit, Airs ‘Daily Show’ Internationally

By Matthew Balan | October 7, 2009 – 19:32

The Situation Room on CNN’s “fact checking” of Saturday Night Live’s skit from October 3, which made fun of President Obama as a “do-nothing,” has generated criticism, according to the TVNewser blog on Wednesday. Meanwhile, CNN’s sister network, CNN International, has been airing a “global edition” of Comedy Central’s Daily Show since 2002, a program which has apparently received less scrutiny.

TVNewser’s Kevin Allocca highlighted the criticism the “fact check” report filed by CNN correspondent Kareen Wynter in an article titled “CNN’s SNL ‘Fact Check’ Generates Backlash.” Allocca cited the Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto (who labeled the “fact check” a “bizarre exercise.”), the Baltimore Sun’s David Zurawik (“Fact checking a comedy sketch — I will say no more.”),

How far can they sink?  How much of a clear partisan institution can they make themselves and still lie to themselves?

They are so into protecting Obama – they fact-check a comedy skit that says bad things about him?

Well, I guess at least we aren’t seeing Obama sending out the CIA or Secret Service to put guns to their head to become a propaganda arm of his administration — this isn’t Hugo Chavez….whom they seem to like a lot too….

At What Point is This Too Much?

October 8, 2009

Good gravey.  This is textbook definition of propaganda:  a source that is supposed to be informative strickly using emotion as the primary conveyer of the information with the intent that the emotions will sell the ideas better than reasoning or non-emotive/manipulated presentations will.

I wonder if I will ever stop wondering if the American media can sink any lower…..???….

Shocked TV Journalists Absolve Obama, Insist IOC Rebuke Won’t Hurt President

By Brent Baker | October 2, 2009 – 21:22

The broadcast evening networks all led Friday night not with the jump in the unemployment rate to 9.8%, but with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) rejection of Chicago’s bid, stories which reflected the premise Chicago lost “despite” or “in spite” of the “star-studded U.S. appeal from Oprah to the Obamas,” while ABC’s Charles Gibson absolved President Barack Obama by pressing for confirmation of “some anti-American sentiment here?” and whether “this is seen as a poke in the eye to the President himself or…to the U.S.?”

Newsweek Political Correspondent: Losing Olympics Good for Obama

By Noel Sheppard | October 2, 2009 – 14:53

It goes without saying the Obama-loving media will be in full damage control mode this weekend trying to spin Friday’s announcement that Chicago will not be the host of the 2016 Olympics, but this one has to take the cake:

Losing the Olympics Bid Is Good for Obama

Such was the headline of an article posted at Newsweek’s “The Gaggle” blog Friday.

The author, Katie Connolly, is a political correspondent for Newsweek, and she actually elaborated on this premise (h/t Hot Air):

Pres. Bush Insults Nations With Neo-Colonialism…

October 3, 2009

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 2 — Before first lady Michelle Obama set off for this Danish capital to lead the charge for Chicago’s valiant — but ultimately unsuccessful — bid for the 2016 Olympics, she joked that the last-minute lobbying effort would be “a battle.” “We’re going to win,” Obama said. “Take no prisoners.”

The world lamented the naked arrogance and aggression of America’s neo-con new president as he flew personally to Europe to force the international Olympic committee to bow to American pressure…

The phrase, “Take no prisoners” was ridiculed across Europe, and abroad, as nakedly cowboyish and typically American – and they did not mean that as a compliment…

Editorialists around the world were particularly enraged by the arrogance of the Mrs. Bush:

At a G-20 dinner in Pittsburgh, she teased Brazil’s first lady, Marisa Leticia da Silva, that when the time came for the last-ditch arguments for the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to Chicago — over competitors Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Madrid — the “gloves are off.”

The fact that the world community rebuked President Bush’s naked neo-colonialism with a humiliating rejection of the US bid to gain the Olympics was not lost on the world’s news media – including in the United States.  CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, Washington Post, and all major media outlets reported that the slap in the face to Bush was a major set back to his already deteriorated global image:

The final death-match competition for the 2016 Olympics came down to emotional one-upmanship. Who could share the most moving story? Which country could strike at the core of the Olympic ideal about one big, happy world in friendly and uplifting sportsmanship? The first lady did not bring home a victory, but she was her team’s most valuable player.

“I had the privilege of being with Mrs. Obama for a day and a half and she was incredibly effective,” says USOC International Vice President Bob Ctvrtlik, a former Olympian. “She was truly elegant, articulate and persuasive. The emotions I saw in those meetings were not conjured up.”

“I found Michelle Obama brilliant. She was emotional, her story really hit home — the openness about her father and the strength of the Paralympic Games,” said Erwin Roth, who has been involved with the Olympics since Lake Placid in 1980 and has written a history of the Games.

The liberal world media was particularly upset with how the Bushes talked exclusively about their personal lives as a means to sell America’s “claim” to host the Olympic games.  They said it showed just how egotistical and arrogant were the First Couple’s sense of entitlement…

He, too, made his pitch personal, talking about the aspects of Chicago that attracted him more than 25 years ago — the city’s diverse cultures, the Midwestern welcoming spirit. But the first lady launched the most powerful emotional strikes.

— I gave up  on this crap after this…

The president of the US, during a time of economic crisis — and in the face of news direct from military leaders that we are losing the Afghan War — goes directly to pressure the Olympic cmte to give Chicago the Olympics —- fails to win —– and is still described as if butter wouldn’t melt in his or his wife’s mouth…

The media sucks…

More Cluleless “Journalism” – When will the statues come?

BPPA II

September 5, 2009

And what does the media decide to tell us instead of facts about the green czar?

Over on NBC, Brian Williams bemoaned: “A back to school speech by the President. How did it get branded as an attempt to brainwash America’s children?” He also conveyed liberal disappointment Obama-defenders aren’t tough enough: “Some are asking how the White House message got hijacked before the speech was delivered and why more people aren’t pushing back.” Andrea Mitchell asserted that “it’s only the latest example of what the White House calls the silly season — town halls where disabled speakers are shouted down….From charges of death panels to the birthers…”

Protect and promote Obama by attacking average citizen opponents and burying items that might harm him…It’s all right there…

“town halls where disabled speakers are shouted down…” —

Pres. Obama can spend his adult life around a man (Ayers) who sees himself as a little “c” communist and a rabid racist (Rev. Wright) and appoint another self-described little “c” communist, and the media doesn’t want to print a word about it —

    — but they are willing to attack thousands of Americans who went to town halls to oppose nationalization of health care…

And in such a transparently shitty way —– Shouting down the disabled?  That is bad.  So, show it to us —– show the clips…show us how this happened and is defining for the town halls….

    ….But you can’t…

So you throw in this quick cheap shot to demean opposition to Obama and then move on…

….while you hold your tongue about an Obama appointee who was an original 9/11 truther and somehow still manages to believe communism is the right way forward — after proving itself a road map for dictatorships and gross poverty….

    I despise the American media…

    Bury – Promote – Protect – Attack – The Media’s New Responsibilities…

    September 5, 2009

The program developed and put into full force by the big media to enhance Obama’s chance of being elected president is still in place to help him politically:

ABC and NBC on Friday night, even after White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was forced to address the topic, continued their blackout of the radical and America-hating conspiracy views of Van Jones, the “Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation” on the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality.

Instead of taking up how five years ago Jones signed the 911truth.org petition calling for an “immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur,” a revelation to which FNC’s Special Report devoted a full story on Thursday, on ABC’s World News fill-in anchor George Stephanopoulos trumpeted the Obama White House “transparency” in the “unprecedented” decision to release visitor logs, which Jake Tapper described as an “historic” move before Stephanopoulos fretted over how Obama “is facing this liberal revolt over the public health insurance option, and the President decided to take it head-on today.”

From the moment Pres. Bush announced his cabinet picks, the media went after them one-by-one.  It kept after them, sometimes for years, trying to peel them away, because they had proven effective in helping Bush get what he wanted done.

Now, we have Pres. Obama picking a self-described “communist” who thinks the US government “allowed” 9/11 to happen – and picks him to be a “czar” — unlike a cabinet secretary who needs to go through Senate confirmation hearings — and some in the media refuse to note it.

They did this with Ayers, Rev. Wright, the poet-activist in Hawaii, and so on…

Bury, promote, protect, attack — all in the name of helping Obama…

    Recommended Book: Bias

    September 4, 2009

I liked the book when it first came out in 2002, but during the election season last year, I read it again, and I find myself reading again after having watched the coverage of the town hall meetings and tea parties and opposition to Pres. Obama’s health care initiative and other economic policies…

I think this is a book worth re-reading about every 2 years  so you can see in a nutshell how petty and bias the elite news media in America is today.

Just one example — an example that actually boggles the mind, because it is just so illogical:  Naming party affiliation.

Here is one today at Newsbusters about two Democrat judges who the AP have stripped away party affiliation from.

Newsbusters has a story like this about every other day from some big news source, and that is every other day year after year.

    Why?

This is something so obvious, so glaring, and so easy to fix:

The press hates being labeled bias.  They want America to admire them for their “non-partisan” “speaking truth to power.”  Why can’t they fix this problem?

Just put out an industry wide memo:  Starting today, any political figure caught in trouble will have his party affiliation mentioned the first time his name is referenced in any news report.

How can they remain so blind to such an easy-to-see example of press bias?  They do pay attention to their critics like Newsbusters – so why can’t they even manage to fix something so simple???

It shows just how deep into their bones the bias runs…

    Sheehan + Obama Abroad – you can’t get more glaring a hypocrisy…

    September 1, 2009

Here is another on how the media is no longer interested in what anti-war Sheehan has to say:

Cindy Sheehan: Where Have All the Cameras Gone?

    by Tim Slagle

Cindy Sheehan brings Camp Casey to Martha’s Vineyard. Meanwhile, the mainstream media is as apathetic about her new protest as they are about an Afghan body count. As the President’s strategy in Afghanistan appears to be failing worse than his economic policies, and his promise to end American military involvements overseas is withering alongside health care reform, recalling those lofty promises from last year’s campaign is like looking at a marriage proposal from the other side of a Las Vegas hangover.

Outside a short article by the AP there is very little coverage of Cindy Sheehan. The woman who once couldn’t go anywhere without a spate of cameras in tow, is now wandering the streets of Martha’s Vineyard completely alone.  (Big Hollywood)

Yes, the hypocrisy over what the media says it stands for (objectivity) and what it actually produces (rank bias) couldn’t be more glaring.  Add this one to the list…

Obama goes abroad and the three network anchors and other big names fall all over each other trying to get a better seat on the plane to join him vs. McCain going abroad and hearing crickets chirp.

The second Palin’s name is mentioned, a grotesque amount of vicious media attacks come out at lightspeed and news agencies sent troops to Alaska to ferret out material to help bury her alive vs The media that couldn’t care less about Obama’s association with Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, and so on.  In fact, when they see non-traditional media outlets are gaining a wider audience on this associations, the media goes into action to protect Obama.

Nancy Pelosi becomes the first female Speaker of the House after 10 years of Republican control and is toasted as the best thing since sliced bread (pun intended) vs Gingrich bringing down the determined, lasting wrath of the media for orchestrating a Republican take over of the House after 40 years of Republican control.

The Bush family has a father-son presidency and gov. of Florida and a grandfather who was a senator and nothing is said about it (in the positive) vs the Kennedy family is crowned royalty in American society and then even worse, the Camelot crap is handed over to Obama who I guess is a family all too himself.

Obama’s wife is lauded as the ideal American woman by the NY Times vs McCain’s wife drug through the mud while being hit from every possible negative angle.

Anti-Iraq War II and George Bush protesters can say the most vile things, carry around vile signs, and shout down people and still gain media support vs “tea baggers” and Nazi fascists disagreeing with Obama’s policies.

The list goes on and on and on…

The media in the US has no shame and no clue…
